The Point That Sets Him Apart: SEON-GHI BAHK
SEON-GHI BAHK
SEON-GHI BAHK was born in Seonsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in 1966. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Chung-Ang University in 1994 and from the Accademia di Belle Arti de Brera in Milan in 2002. In 2006, he became the ninth recipient of the Kim Chong Young Sculpture Award. His childhood memories largely consist of the many hours he spent romping freely through nature. Including his studies in Italy, BAHK spent eleven years working on artwork in cities such as London, England, and Mannheim, Germany, before returning to Korea. He took up installation art, one of the new trends that appeared as art began to diversify in the 1990s, and established a unique identity through three-dimensional spatial sculptures that conceptually transcend the traditional genre of sculpture. His work addresses themes from human architectural culture through the method of hanging up the natural material of charcoal, straddling the emotional divide between the East and West. His works appear in the collections of museums and corporations around the world, including the Korean National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Kim Chong Young Museum, the Bonte Museum on Jeju Island, the Pohang Museum of Steel Art, Gana Art Park in J
