Charles Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), nicknamed "Bird" or "Yardbird", was an American jazzsaxophonist, bandleader, and composer.[1][2] Parker was a highly influential soloist and leading figure in the development of bebop,[3] a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and advanced harmonies. He was a virtuoso and introduced revolutionary rhythmic and harmonic ideas into jazz, including rapid passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. Parker was primarily a player of the alto saxophone.
Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual rather than just an entertainer.[4]

Clark Ross is a Venezuelan-born Canadian composer and professor of composition and theory at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Last Dance, nominated for a 2011 Juno Award for Classical Composition of the Year, has been called "haunting and beautiful" by pianist Jon Kimura Parker, and was recorded on a 2010 Centrediscs CD (Piano Atlantica) by pianist Barbara Pritchard, as well as on a 2000 CD (Bookends in Time) by Kristina Szutor, who commissioned the work.
His works have been performed in England, Ireland, Israel, Japan, the United States, and across Canada. Guitarist Daniel Bolshoy has played Ross's McGillicuddy's Rant, a set of ten variations on an original theme, over seventy times on three continents, and released a CD of the same name in 2008. McGillicuddy's Rant was also featured on a 2011 CD-release by Canadian guitaristSylvie Proulx entitled Sirocco. A 2012 CD by pianist Kristina Szutor, Après Scarlatti, includes two recent Ross compositions (Domenico 1° (Scarlet Daybreak) & 2° (Scarlet Nightfall)). A 2012 Centrediscs CD of Canadian works for solo cello by Vernon Regehr includes Ross's Lamentations, which has also been performed by Kaori Yamagami and Thomas Loewenheim.
